POSITION SUMMARY

The Vehicle Drainage Technician is responsible for executing vehicle drainage operations to ensure compliance with shipping regulations and safety standards. This role involves draining fuel tanks, disconnecting batteries, and maintaining equipment functionality while adhering to strict safety protocols. The Technician plays a critical role in preventing fines, ensuring safe transit, and maintaining customer trust.

OBJECTIVES

  • Perform complete drainage of vehicle fuel tanks to meet shipping standards, ensuring less than ¾ of a tank or fully empty.
  • Disconnect vehicle batteries during the drainage process to ensure safety.
  • Ensure proper functioning of drainage machinery and tools, including clamps and hoses.
  • Report any mechanical issues encountered during the operation.
  • Identify and report damages to vehicles that occur during the drainage process.
  • Use PPE and follow all safety protocols to prevent hazards and accidents.
  • Communicate directly with the Loading Captain upon completion of the drainage process.
  • Position vehicles according to the Loading Captain’s instructions after drainage is complete.
  • Complete each drainage operation within the 15-minute time limit per vehicle.
  • Prevent environmental and safety risks by avoiding drainage near flammable objects or during inclement weather.
  • Adhere to guidelines under the Marpol Convention to avoid regulatory fines.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to support efficient operations.
  • Monitor and log all drainage activities for reporting and compliance purposes.
  • Stay alert to environmental hazards and take proactive steps to mitigate risks.
  • Conduct routine checks of drainage tools and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Strong attention to detail to ensure proper fuel drainage and compliance.
  • Knowledge of drainage operations and shipping regulations, including the Marpol Convention.
  • Proficiency in using drainage tools, such as clamps, hoses, and screwdrivers.
  • Commitment to safety standards and proper use of PPE.
  • Physical stamina to lift up to 50 pounds and perform outdoor tasks.
  • Ability to work efficiently under tight time constraints (15 minutes per vehicle).
  • Problem-solving skills to address mechanical issues or drainage discrepancies.
  • Effective communication skills to coordinate with the Loading Captain and team members.
  • Familiarity with environmental and fire safety protocols during drainage operations.
  • Organizational skills to maintain a clean and hazard-free work area.
  • Adaptability to handle varying environmental conditions.
  • Team-oriented mindset to collaborate effectively with supervisors and team members.
  • Ability to monitor and maintain equipment functionality.
  • Customer-focused approach to uphold trust and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • High level of responsibility and accountability in performing drainage operations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Basic training in drainage operations and tool handling.
  • Familiarity with vehicle and shipping regulations.
  • Experience in a related field is preferred but not required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Use of tools and equipment, including PPE.
  • Clear visibility and focus during operations to maintain safety.
